My adviser never gave up on me

T is a bright young woman with Autism, complex mental health and a visual impairment living in Hackney. However, having been bullied at school and missing her final year and GCSE exams she felt her options post 16 were limited. Understanding her concerns a dedicated support adviser at Shaw Trust worked to find her a specialist training provider where she could study for her GSCEs and A levels. Anxious that the bullying would restart if she returned to education T’s health worsened and she went into a residential mental health unit. Rather than give up on learning, T’s adviser found ways for her to study while in the unit and make plans for when she returned home.
T is now studying and receiving support from her adviser and comments: “My adviser never gave up on me.”
