  • 12 months: For people looking for work
  • 4 months: For those who find work, or already have a job

No – as long as you’re interested in working.

If you’re not currently working, you’ll be expected to look for jobs as part of your support. If you’re already in a role, we can help you keep it.

We’re the good work charity. We want to help people find roles that fit their needs and preferences. This could be around hours (part-time, flexible, hybrid), self-employment, or a specific industry (such as customer service or retail).

We’ll support you with any challenges you’re facing and help you build confidence. We can also talk to your employer about reasonable adjustments, if you need them.

If you can’t make an appointment, just let us know beforehand. If you miss one, we’ll try to contact you to check in and rearrange. We understand that things happen, but it’s important to let us know if you can’t attend.

If we can’t reach you after a few attempts or you miss several appointments without contacting us, we might need to close your place on the programme. We’ll always let you know if this happens.

We’ll make sure you’re confident about what comes next.

  • If you’re in work: We’ll continue supporting you for up to four months, so you can settle in with confidence
  • If you’re still looking for work: We’ll explore local services and opportunities with you, so you can keep progressing

Yes, including text, email and phone. Just let us know what works best for you – including for your appointments. These are usually in person, but we can offer a different format if you need one as a reasonable adjustment.

That’s not a problem. During appointments, we mainly work with you face-to-face, with printed resources and help with online tasks.

No. Shaw Trust is an independent charity delivering Connect to Work.

We do get referrals from the Jobcentre, but we don’t make decisions about your benefits. We’re here to provide personalised support, so you can move into or stay in work.

Yes. We know that health can affect work, and vice versa. That’s why we build this into your action plan. If you need any other support, we can link you with local health and wellbeing services, too.

  • We only take the information we need to give you the right support (relating to finding or keeping work)
  • We’ll use this to understand your needs and track your progress
  • We store and handle your data securely in line with data protection laws, including GDPR
  • Find more about data protection in your welcome booklet when you join

You can withdraw consent and leave the programme at any time. Just talk to your employment specialist or email connecttowork@essex.gov.uk.
