Fighting for his family and the future: David’s story
Meet David*. At the start of his journey, he was in custody – dealing with trauma, low confidence and a lack of contact with his children. He couldn’t see a way forwards and knew he needed help to make a life for himself after release.
A new beginning
Instead of spiralling, David took the bold step to self-refer to CFO Evolution. With the help of his Support Worker Lauren, he hasn’t looked back since.
David was initially nervous to speak to Lauren. He shared that he was lost, and his only way out was to find a good job. He felt there were no options out there for him, and without help, he’d be left with no alternative than to go back to his old ways. So, Lauren helped David see what choices he had – both in custody, and in the outside world.
Putting in the work
With some direction for the future, David started to get ready for his next chapter. First, he found a job while in custody, knowing this would be vital experience and a stepping-stone to good work after release. Next, armed with newfound confidence, he asked for support to reconnect with his children. This helped him re-integrate with his family and build strong, loving relationships once again. Finally, he worked on interview preparation and his CV, highlighting his new goals and achievements.
Making headway
David soon landed an interview with Iceland and was one of six people put forward to the next round, out of 50. He recently went to his second interview and is waiting to hear back. Either way, he feels positive about the new skills he’s learned and his journey forwards. From dreams that seemed unachievable to real goals now in reach, David’s future is bright, happy and filled with both rewarding work, and the love of his family.
A last look back
Now free from a life of doubt, isolation and insecurity, David credits CFO Evolution as helping him break the cycle. He said: “Thank you for your support, Lauren, I feel like I am listened to and can speak to you when needed.” Now all that’s left is to see how far David’s new journey will take him.
