A single mum is supported to start a new role in social care

Our participant is a single mum to three boys. The pressures of home schooling during the pandemic had a detrimental effect on her mental health. When she joined the JETS programme she believed her lack of qualifications meant she could not progress beyond the cleaning roles she had always done – even though she actually wanted to work in care.
She received a tablet so she could join workshops to help her search for jobs online. She was also supported by our wellbeing team to address her anxieties about the uncertain future.
Building in confidence, she quickly secured an interview with a home care company that took just one hour to offer her the job. To make the role manageable and significantly reduce her commute time, she also received a bike.
When she got her first wage packet, she took her sons to the cinema and for dinner out afterwards. This was a first for the family. She also bought the boys brand-new trainers for the first time ever. She says her house is now a happier place to be and her mental health has improved drastically.
