AH joined Thrive into Work in December 2023 after being referred by his Work Coach at Stratford Up-On Avon job centre, after struggling to secure a role due his health condition. AH is diagnosed with epilepsy and found himself experiencing knock backs because employers saw him as a health and safety risk. When he joined Thrive in Work his confidence was low.
AH was allocated an Employment Specialist to provide 1:1 support on a weekly basis, they worked together to create an understanding of AH’s health condition, barriers, career aspirations and previous experience. The Thrive into Work service works by sharing personal information with a new employer, using a positive health statement to let them know about his health condition. This was a key part to AH’s journey to help an employer understand how they can support AH at work, what symptoms to look out for if AH was to have a seizure and the aftercare. The statement included all of the strengths that AH has and how able he is to complete ‘normal’ duties.
AH worked with his Employment Specialist to search for jobs in line with his career goal of working with animals. As a result he secured a role at a dog boarding home. His employer offered him trial shifts to show his capabilities and was grateful for the extra information the positive health statement provided. AH is still employed with the same employer (02/25).
