Briar always wanted to pursue a career in the army and was able to fulfil his dream thanks in part to Homes2Inspire. Having entered the care system at 14 after witnessing domestic abuse, criminal activity and experiencing neglect, Briar always talked about joining the army. When he turned 16 he applied but was refused. Believing Briar had experienced discrimination as a looked after child Homes2Inspire appealed the decision twice, winning at the second appeal.
For Briar, joining the army is more complicated than for most recruits. Home leave and time-off is essential to ensure recruits are rested, but for Briar, having joined the army his residential care place was uncertain, because it could be used to support another child. Knowing this was a significant issue Homes2Inspire secured a staying close package for Briar, meaning he, like the other recruits in his platoon, had a home to go to where he could rest and recuperate.
Having Passed Out at Harrogate in August in front of his Homes2Inspire family, Briar who feels “it’s surreal to have got to this point” is now moving to Catterick Garrison, But he won’t be on his own because he will still have a home and an extremely proud family with Homes2Inspire.
