On July 2, a team from the Shaw Trust Foundation joined forces in Windsor, at the ground-breaking Festival of Inclusivity – Parallel Windsor.
The team were there to raise awareness about the Disability Power 100 and the Foundation\’s disability advocacy work. We spoke to lots of festival goers about the DP100, signed people up to receive our campaign updates, and gave press-on tattoos with our campaign slogan – #DemandTheChange.
During the day, we were joined by lots of our Disability Power 100 influencers, including former Paralympian swimmer, Ellie Simmonds OBE, who opened the Disability Power 100 metres, which was the first challenge event of the day.
The Disability Power 100 metres
Organisers of Parallel Windsor invited us to team up to host the first ever Disability Power 100 metres. This was a 100 metres event like no other, as participants were encouraged to start together, but finish whenever.
A fully inclusive event, this 100-metres showed what can be achieved when barriers to inclusion are removed.
Just like what we fight for with the Disability Power 100 campaign.

Raising the profile of the Shaw Trust Foundation
We shared the day’s updates on our social media, gaining 1000s of views on our Twitter and Instagram posts, and widening our networks to increase the visibility of our ongoing DP100 campaign work. But why is this important…
#DemandTheChange – what does that mean?
One of the aims of the Shaw Trust Foundation is to help close the Disability Employment Gap, which currently sits at 30%. To do this, the Foundation works with policy makers to inform policy change, working with our Shaw Trust experts to advise on inclusive employment.
We also work hard to bring the topic of disability inclusion to mainstream digital and social media.
What’s next?
In the Autumn, we will be announcing this year’s top 100 most influential disabled people, at our Disability Power 100 2023 event. Want to be reminded to nominate next year? Sign up for reminders here.
