What is the National Careers Service?

The National Careers Service provides high quality, free and impartial careers information, advice and guidance across England, to anyone aged 13+ no matter what stage of the careers journey they’re at.

Our careers advisers provide careers information, advice and guidance that best reflects our customers’ needs and circumstances. This doesn’t look the same for everyone but may include:

Individual guidance appointments, either online or at a local venue

Signposting towards specialist resources and support

Participation in webinars or group sessions

We can support you to:

  • Explore career options
  • Analyse your skills and plan your career
  • Develop an action plan
  • Access opportunities including jobs, learning and apprenticeships
  • Develop your CV and job search skills
  • Improve your interview techniques and job applications
  • Understand the local job market
  • Access online advice and digital tools
  • Take your next steps after redundancy
  • Search for courses and training schemes
  • Find funding to support learning
  • Access sector webinars, job fairs and live events with employers

Who is National Careers Service for?

Citizens: We provide anyone aged 13+ with lifelong careers information, advice and guidance to help you make good career choices, no matter what point of your career journey you’re at.

Intermediaries: We provide information for parents, teachers, employers, coaches and advisers to support others in their career journey.

Stakeholders: We work with organisations, employers and professional bodies to promote the importance of up to date careers guidance.
