Jasper’s path to employment and well-being

Jasper presented with a history of suicidal ideation and was deeply dissatisfied with his current full-time employment, which involved unsociable shifts and lacked any personal fulfilment. Despite these challenges, Jasper demonstrated a remarkable sense of optimism and eagerly engaged in the support services. He openly acknowledged the impact of dyslexia on his confidence and shared that he relied on tools like Grammarly to assist with his written communication. A strong rapport quickly developed, and we collaboratively created an action plan to help Jasper secure a position within his desired field of Logistics. With his CV in hand, we began to explore potential career pathways.

Maintaining regular communication via WhatsApp due to work pattern, Jasper informed me of an upcoming interview. With the importance of thorough preparation, we conducted a mock interview with AS acting as the interviewer. Using the job description provided by Jasper, I created a series of interview questions. The aim was to not only prepare Jasper for the potential questions but also to simulate an interview environment, with AS assuming the role of a firm and demanding interviewer. Jasper performed well during the mock interview, and then discussing his strengths and areas for improvement to ensure he presented himself as the best candidate.

Jasper performed exceptionally well in his interview, expressing his gratitude for the mock interview, which he credited with significantly lowering his anxiety and boosting his confidence. He successfully progressed through subsequent interview stages, reaching the final three candidates. While ultimately not selected for this role, Jasper gained invaluable experience from the preparation process and maintained a positive outlook, focusing on the skills and insights he acquired.

Unexpectedly, another interview opportunity arose with Chanel. Jasper’s “Onwards and upwards for me,” was incredibly encouraging. It became evident that not only were our employment support sessions proving beneficial, but Jasper was also experiencing significant progress in his CBT therapy with RS, effectively addressing his previous low mood and negative thought patterns.

As Jasper was working, I decided a digital communication would be best suited so no pressure of attending meetings. This has really worked, as Jasper feels he has continuous support, and he uses me as a kind of sounding board and emotional expression chat.

Jasper messaged just into 2025 new year saying “I got some good news” this was at nearly 6pm, when I replied the next morning he followed withd “I started a new job with jimmy choo Harrods”

“The day after we spoke (end of last year) I had an interview, the next day I got the offer!”

“I started yesterday”

The excitement I could see through the messages was amazing, as you could just hear and feel his relief, excitement and proudness, even stating “I’m happy as it is a fresh start for me moving forward in life”.

I then let him know that, as he is now settled, happy and in a good place. That I will be around checking in, but I will discharge him from our service. I also conduct aftercare support, so I will check in making sure he is all well and still in a good place.

Jasper replied with a lovely sentiment “appreciate the support. My struggle was real but you kept me together to me and I appreciate that more than anything”

In my final communication before discharge, I checked in with Jasper to ensure his continued progress. Maintaining the positive rapport we had established; I concluded with a light hearted and supportive message: “Good luck and continue 2025! By riding that Jimmy Choo-choo train!

His reply, “Hey Rob, hope you’re well and having a good start to the year. Appreciate everything, especially allowing me to talk my thoughts out!” and “Please follow up in a couple weeks, that would be greatly appreciated mate”, brought a smile to my face. It serves as a reminder that the ultimate goal of my work is to facilitate client progression and empower them to find their own solutions with a few tips and a little helping hand.

In conclusion, the combined support from CBT therapy and employment support has significantly improved Jasper’s mental well-being. This positive shift has empowered him to make significant strides, leading to a position of stability and happiness, with a renewed sense of optimism for the future.
