Volunteer Wellbeing Coach (Children and Young People Services, London)

Location/region: Various locations in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Bexleyheath, Bromley, Enfield, Greenwich, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Waltham Forest
We work with some of the country’s most vulnerable young people. They are often at risk of poor educational attainment, social exclusion, exploitation and substance misuse issues.
 
By working with them through a crucial, challenging time in their lives, we can help them to improve their life chances.

Key Tasks

This role could include:
  • Facilitating wellbeing groups where people can discuss and share their experiences.
  • Giving personalised one-to-one support and assisting participants in achieving their wellbeing goals.
  • Motivating participants with constructive feedback and positive affirmations throughout the process.
  • Delivering information sessions on various topics such as confidence & motivation, healthy eating, self-belief and overcoming doubts, setting and achieving goals, SMART action planning, financial health.
  • Taking a person-centred and solution-focused approach with participants on a one-to-one basis across several sessions.
  • Creating a safe and supportive environment to foster positive outcomes.
  • Appropriately signposting participants to local activities/resources.
  • Demonstrate useful self-help, emotional and behavioural regulation techniques, to support participants in managing their wellbeing.

What are we asking for?

  • Normally we ask for around 4 hours a month, but we can be flexible.
  • Volunteers in this role must be aged 16+
  • Lived experience of the challenges facing young people in the community.
  • Understanding of the barriers facing people from vulnerable groups and a commitment to actively helping young people.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and engage with the public.
  • Adaptable to support a range of people & their needs, which may include people who have experienced challenging life events and circumstances.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Have skills working with or supporting people who face disadvantages such as health issues, disability and a lack of employability skills.
  • Patience and excellent listening skills.

Volunteer hours

Four hours between 09:00 an 17:00 between Monday and Friday.
