Continuing from the visits I recently shared, I am pleased to share some more events I had the privilege of attending.
I recently visited Wakefield to support the Information, Advice and Guidance team at a careers fair. Armed with my Youth Participation banner and some questionnaires, I was excited to talk to young people from the area. Using skills I obtained at the London Peer Research Project convention I began to talk with young people who approached the stall. Over the time I was there I spoke with lots of young people and supported 12 people in completing the questionnaire. The questionnaire asks young people to tell us about what they are looking forward to, and what they are concerned about. I will be writing another blog in the future all about this survey and the findings.
I also spent some time walking around the other stands to see what services were available for young people in the area. I had a fantastic time talking to young people about their future and listening to the brilliant staff and the support they offer in Wakefield.
After a great time in the North, it was time to head back down South, this time to visit Romford in Havering. I supported at the Young People’s ‘moving on’ event. This time I was there with the Supported Internships team, promoting their service to young people. A Supported Internship is a study programme aimed at young people aged 16-24 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and want to move into employment but need some extra support. These usually last around a year and give young people the opportunity to complete 3 different placements. I had some great conversations with young people about their interests and their favourite subjects.
I have had a great time talking with young people across the regions about their experiences and what matters to them. I have some upcoming visits scheduled for Gloucestershire, London and Bexley and I am excited to update you on what I experience here too.
In the meantime, if you know of an event I should attend, or you are a young person and would like to talk to me about your experiences please reach out. My email address is youthparticipation@prospects.ac.uk.
