Retail Supervisor

Location/region: At select stores

As a retail supervisor volunteer, you will be supporting a local shop for a national charity that helps people facing disadvantage gain skills, find work, and take control of their futures.

You will use your skills to support the management team to deliver a successful community business that raises funds for the charity.

Key Tasks

  • Supervising other volunteers when necessary. (When supervising volunteers under the age of 18, a DBS check is required).
  • Managing the parental consent and contact information process.
  • Ensuring a consistently high level of customer service, this includes signing up customers for Gift Aid, operating the cash register, and taking care of the shop’s closing procedures.
  • In the absence of the shop manager, you may be called upon to serve as their deputy.
  • Handling refunds, voiding, or suspending sales.
  • Opening and closing daily sessions.
  • Managing the cash float in the morning and end-of-day float counts, as well as inputting takings into the till.
  • Conducting midday readings and checks.
  • Updating slip numbers upon the manager’s return.
  • On a weekly basis, you should inspect fire alarms and emergency lights, documenting the checks in the fire safety logbook.
  • Locking the diary securely in a safe or cabinet and conducting PED checks, excluding online ones, is part of your role, leaving online checks for the manager to handle.

Volunteer hours

Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and weekends, no minimum hours. There is flexibility around the start and finish times, volunteers generally volunteer for either a morning or afternoon shift.
