Tailored support helps A to get back on track

Before coming to Shaw Trust A’s mental ill health and behavioural issues led him to use Class A drugs. He started working with an advisor supporting his wellbeing and path towards recovery. Using a formal approach coupled with informal activities including dog walking and cooking classes, A was able to reduce his alcohol consumption and gain an understanding of the effects his drug use had on his mental and physical well-being. He made the decision to stop using Class A drugs.
A’s progress was supported by CAMHS, which provided him with the necessary tools to better manage his mental health. His relationship with his family improved, and he found new motivation to start college. A’s gratitude for his Shaw Trust advisor was evident in his words, “We get along well. I’m special, and she’s special. She’s always there for me when I need to ask questions about drugs or prescriptions. She’s also there to listen when I’m feeling down.”
