On the 2nd of December, The East Kent IPS Team completed their very first volunteer day with Repton Connect Community Centre and Foodbank. The day was spent ensuring the people of Ashford did not go hungry through a variety of activities. These included pricing up food items, supplying the community shop with the newly priced products, sorting through and selecting quality produce, packing and distributing food parcels for families and washing up around 90 cups! Certain members of the team even chipped in to help wipe the windows to make the community centre even more inviting.
Manager of Repton Connect Community Centre and Foodbank, Charlie Lloyd-Lea, shared his gratitude with the volunteer day organiser, Emma Fitchett, stating ‘It was an absolute pleasure having you and your team in the building, what a lovely bunch you are! You have given me time to undertake all the administrative tasks which I would not have been able to complete if you weren’t here. Thank you so much for coming. Let’s stay in touch and hopefully do it again sometime in 2025.’
Emma commended the team on their efforts during the volunteering day by noting ‘every single person got stuck in today and were happy to work as a team to help the community. What is truly lovely is being able to see how passionate the members of my team are about making a difference. Teamwork certainly does make the dream work!’
Kerry Boyd, East Kent IPS Team Leader praised the team “I’m thrilled, after a few months of planning we decided as team to help a local cause and to utilise our volunteering day allowance from Shaw Trust as a team activity. We would recommend to other teams to try something like this. It was great for team bonding and wellbeing as the team found it refreshing to take a step back from our usual day to day schedules to be making a difference in a different way. The team are already thinking about next year’s team volunteering day!”
