TBR was experiencing very low mood and depression after having her first child and finding herself homeless, currently sofa surfing at a friend’s house following a complete breakdown in her relationship with her mother.
Previously, TBR had been working part-time as a teaching assistant but aspired to secure a job in health and social care. I spoke to her about her situation and listened empathetically to her problems. I offered her support and advised her on the financial help available to her. Additionally, I signposted her to Strive to enrol in a Health & Social Care course, which she successfully did.
Over the following weeks, we focused on targeted CV writing and cover letter writing. TBR also initiated a healthy eating and exercise routine, which has significantly improved her low mood, and this positive change is clear to see.
I signposted TBR to Thames Reach to assist her in finding a home and she is actively searching for an appropriate home for herself and her baby. She is now receiving Universal Credit, Child Benefit, and Housing Benefit which has given her peace of mind.
TBR commenced her ‘Health & Social Care’ course at the beginning of January and is thoroughly enjoying it, receiving excellent feedback from her tutor. She is still in the process of home hunting and has developed a better relationship with her mother, which is encouraging from a support perspective.
Moreover, she has signed up for additional future courses, as she is enjoying her current course so much that she is even considering pursuing a degree!
The transformation I have witnessed in this client is truly heartwarming and highlights the crucial role that support, advice, and guidance play in changing someone’s life.
