Our national charity shop network is growing with nine new shops in Wiltshire and Dorset.
These shops are being transferred to Shaw Trust by Trussell, the anti-poverty charity. Trussell’s commitment to its vision of ending the need for emergency food has led to it focusing investment into its community of food banks and work towards ending hunger, and the charity felt that this was preventing their charity shops from fulfilling their potential.
As a national charity with Wiltshire roots, and a mission to help people find secure and meaningful work, we were chosen by Trussell to take on the shops as our work is a vital part of the solution in helping people avoid hardship.
Trussell’s vision of a UK without the need for food banks will only be achieved by working in partnership. Ensuring that everyone can access decent and rewarding work opportunities and building strong, inclusive communities are key building blocks in reaching a future where no one needs a food bank to survive, and at Shaw Trust we’re committed to doing just that.
Shaw Trust charity shops are an important part of the community, bringing people together and support items being reused, repurposed, and rehomed. They create £4,657,481 of social value (using Charity Retail Association methodology) and money raised from the sale of goods supports the delivery of additional charitable projects such as the Disability Power 100.
Speaking about the acquisition Renata Graver, Director of Charity Retail Shops and Enterprise Activities said,
“We’re thrilled that Trussell has chosen to transfer their charity shops to us. They’re an important part of the community and as part of our national retail network we’ll invest in their future. Trussell has a clear vision for a future without the need for food banks and building decent, secure and rewarding work is a key part of the solution. Focusing on our strengths means that together we are stronger and can provide the support people facing hardship require.”
The shops will officially be transferred to Shaw Trust on the 1st November, taking our total of stores to 32 nationwide. To prepare, the shops will be closed briefly from 30th October for rebranding and refitting and are set to reopen on the 15th November. We’re looking forward to welcoming our new customers!
