After spending years as a primary school teacher in her home country, this Thrive into Work participant, like many others, faced numerous challenges when she arrived in the UK. Despite her extensive experience working with children, she hadn’t worked for many years and was unsure if she would ever find employment again. The stress and anxiety of her situation led her to seek help from the Thrive into Work programme, and it was here that her journey began to change for the better.
“I lost all confidence in my abilities,” she shared. “I was stressed, wondering if I’d ever be able to work again. Thrive into Work has changed my life for the better.”
Through the support of her Employment Specialist, Kaneez, she found her dream role as a Lunchtime Assistant in a local school. The journey to employment wasn’t easy, but with step-by-step guidance, her confidence slowly returned. “Even though I worked with primary school children before, it felt like starting with a blank canvas. But I’m taking one small step each day and gaining my confidence back,” she explained.
Kaneez worked closely with her, focusing not only on securing employment but also on building the skills needed to maintain a healthy balance between work and life. “With my first payment, I bought myself a nice pair of gardening gloves since I enjoy kitchen gardening. Now, I can spend time doing my hobbies and also enjoy my work.”
One of the standout aspects of this story is the personal, holistic approach taken by Kaneez. From engaging with her GP to better understand her circumstances to reaching out to the Head Teacher before her interview, Kaneez made sure she was supported at every stage. “Kaneez understood my barriers, explored my strengths, and coached me to rebuild my confidence. She even introduced me to the Head Teacher before my interview, which made me feel more comfortable.”
Since starting work, she continues to receive ongoing support, with regular meetings between her, her Employment Specialist, and her supervisor to monitor her progress. “I’m no longer taking medication, and that has made a huge difference. The Head Teacher has already appreciated my hard work, which has really lifted my spirits.”
Now that she’s back in the workplace, her goals have expanded. She plans to become a Teaching Assistant, with Kaneez continuing to support her every step of the way. “I’m extremely grateful to Thrive into Work for helping me not only find work but also rebuild my confidence and improve my mental health.”
Her success has inspired others, and she’s already encouraged her friends to join the programme. “Thrive came into my life at the right time, and I’ve received so much support and encouragement. I can’t thank my Employment Specialist enough for everything.”
This story is a great example of how the Thrive into Work programme makes a real difference in people’s lives. By offering personalised, one-on-one support, the programme helps individuals not only find meaningful work but also regain their confidence and improve their mental wellbeing.
