During this year’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we met with Tesco colleagues to discuss our ongoing partnership work. Shaw Trust colleagues attended Tesco’s Head Office Neurodiversity Celebration event – meeting Tesco colleagues from various locations.
We also connected virtually with Tesco staff unable to attend on the day. This follow-up session focused on sharing best practices for hiring and supporting neurodivergent employees within Tesco.
What else have we been up to with Tesco?
In October 2023, we saw 63 colleagues join a work placement with Tesco under the Disability Work Placement Scheme. 43 secured a job upon completion, and we are now expanding this pilot to 290 Tesco stores.
This year we’ve also delivered a series of Neurodiversity Training sessions [link to other article] to Tesco store managers, as part of our continuous improvement plan with Tesco. One Tesco manager said that, after they spotted gaps in their understanding of how to support neurodivergent colleagues: “Shaw Trust developed a bespoke training session, delivered flexibly around the needs of our business and colleagues.”
What is Neurodiversity Celebration Week?
Neurodiversity Celebration Week aims to challenge negative narratives about neurological differences. Celebrated worldwide each year, it aims to counter stereotypes and misconceptions about neurodivergent individuals, leading to a more inclusive and equitable culture.
