In her own words, Sammy has shared her story with us from the moment she referred herself to Live Well Kent and Medway.
\”I referred myself to Live Well Kent and Shaw Trust as I had been struggling for some time to get and keep work due to my autism and anxiety. After a particularly rotten year where I did eventually find work but couldn’t stay due to unfair working conditions, I felt more useless and depressed than I ever had been before. I felt as though I would never be able to hold a job.
I desperately wanted to work, and after I found out about Live Well Kent and its various services at a job fair in Faversham – I signed up that evening! It finally felt like someone could help me!
I have really appreciated and enjoyed my support with Kirtrin. It has felt like I had a friend who really understands who I am, what I’m good at, and what my strengths are – the confidence boost I really needed. She has helped me format my CV to look more professional and talked me through various interview questions that I struggle with. She also helped me perform job searches which was fantastic, as I was very specific about the sort of jobs I knew I could and couldn’t cope with. Kirtrina also helped me come up with answers for a document I had to write for work once I found something.
The hot jobs emails were particularly useful, as it was through one of these that I found the job that I now have as a part-time housekeeper. This works really well for me, as even though I want to move onto a career in animal care eventually; it keeps me motivated, gives me more confidence and experience for my CV, allows me to fund any more courses I might want to do, and as it is part time I can still volunteer on the side!
The service has been incredible, and I am really glad I signed up. I haven’t felt this confident in a long time, and I feel able to disclose my disability to employers without fear.
I am so grateful to Kirtrina for all her help, and to all from Live Well Kent and Shaw Trust who have spoken to me and helped me to get to a much better place mentally, and ultimately into employment! The advice and support has been invaluable to me. For the first time since I was diagnosed at 21, I feel that there are people who understand me and are there for me, and I don’t have to be on my own in my struggles. Thank you all so much!\”
