City of London Member of Youth Parliament
The role of Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) is an important one, elected by their peers as someone who can represent them fairly and effectively. MYPs are required to attend a range of meetings each month, actively engaging in and leading conversations, projects and campaigns.
To be eligible to stand for MYP or vote in the election, you must be aged 11-18, and live, work or study in the City of London.
The City Youth Forum and our Youth Participation Lead in the City of London welcomed the new elected member of Youth Parliament Zahra and deputy member, Tom. Zahra and Tom started their term on 1 April 2024, and will be in post for two years. The departing members and deputy member Louis and Nabeel celebrated the new incoming elected officials.
Both Zahra and Tom campaigned with Mental Health as their key manifesto pledge. Zahra’s second pledge was around air quality in the square mile and Tom’s about increasing engagement in extra-curricular activities. In agreement with each other Zahra and Tom agreed a vision statement setting out what they are working towards for young people who live, work or study in the City of London.
“Young people are happier, healthier, more informed and engaged with the opportunities around them.”
