Shaw Trust is delighted to announce that we have won the ‘Trustee Board of the Year’ award at the Charity Times Awards.
This year we were shortlisted for three awards: Charity of the Year, Trustee Board of the Year, and Supporting Leader of the Year. To celebrate this achievement, a group of colleagues and Trustees attended the Awards ceremony on 14 September.
Our award winning Trustee Board
Our Trustees align with and support our mission and values. They give their time willingly and voluntarily, and have supported our mission in some of the following ways.
We have successfully recruited an increasingly diverse Trustee board in the last 12 months. We have increased our board from 20% to 40% female, and from 20% to 36% ethnically diverse.
Our Trustees bring a wide variety of specialist skills to the table, from experience in children and family services, to education and disability advocacy.
Our Trustees act in Shaw Trust’s best interests and go beyond their core responsibilities. Lara Oyesanya is a sponsor and a guest speaker of our Women’s Network, James Stewart OBE acts as a Trustee sponsor for our future leaders’ programme, and Mike Nussbaum is part of our strategic safeguarding working group.
Our Trustees attend each colleague representative body meeting which allows them to hear directly from colleague representatives. Similarly, a group of our participants attend every Trustee Board meeting to share their experiences of our services with our Trustees.
Trustees also visit our operational sites to meet with our colleagues and participants. This allows them to gain further insight into our services.
Our Trustees recognise that our people are fundamental to delivering our services successfully. To support this, they have assisted with the creation of an internal wellbeing service (with qualified medical practitioners). This places strategic importance in investing in learning and development of our colleagues.
The evening was a fantastic way to celebrate a well-deserved win for our brilliant Trustees, who we thank for their continued time, support and dedication to Shaw Trust.
